Cause

The arguments
men must make
Against the vow
to love we take

A worthy fire
or boorish call
servant's trade
and masters fall

one life to give
unto the grave
how better lived
than as a slave

In hope we speak
fate follows chance
touched in truth
by happenstance

For merciless
a debtor be
When prison's price
we paid for free

The wheel is spun
with due regard
of battered spirit
and ground so hard

For breath of spring
And petal's scent
No greater charge
to which we're spent
