New

All those things
You thought or hope are true
Come into your life
As you open to the new

The chasm of her eyes
Lure you to the edge
Into the darkness you fall
Forgotten safety of the ledge

Take something solid into battle
Fresh memory of her smile
Someone to separate you
From the rank and file

Granted but not taken
Given but not lost
The grace of a family
Worth whatever it may cost

Fools stand there waiting
For a signal or a sign
As the ship passes the mooring
Refuse to fix the line

May stumble into greatness
Or fall clumsily to the dirt
Winners fall the furthest
Understanding it may hurt

Her beauty is a bonus
Her mind a nice reward
That heart seems quite precious
For this I thank the Lord
