Tickets

What great things are left for all of us to see?
Is it fun like they told us it was supposed to be?
Do you laugh or does it make you want to cry instead?
Is this because of the perceptions in your head?
Is it your head or heart that feels a bit left out?
Holding on to empty dreams replaced with doubt
Did they ever really promise that you'd find paradise?
Or did they fill your castle with sculptures carved from ice?
So that when they face the sun at midday heat
They turn in to a puddle on the street at your feet
Or were you raised by folks who really cared?
And tried to mix the good with the bad when they shared
And let's just say you've got everything you wanted
What do you do now if you're still haunted?
When you lack significance, romance or joy
Maybe you'll be completed by a girl or a boy
Or if only you had accepted your rightful place as king
Where people come for miles just to kiss that ring
Have you ever known someone who was happy in charge?
Or are the requirements of that job just a bit too large?
Or maybe you'd prefer to be simple man instead
Proud to have some food and roof for your head
Receiving your happiness from the things you can't get
Or grand adventures of life that you haven't done yet
Or maybe live vicariously through your daughter or son
Hoping to fill your tank on the things that they've won
Deprive yourself of comfort and grow a third eye
I know three who've done it but you should still try
You can run from the truth until the cows come home
Or build a few more cities on ground made of loam
There is only one answer to the question in your head
I've tried to lead you to it with the things that I've said
I am no one special just another man like you
You may not like me but you know my words are true
