that day

Where were you that day you realized your parents were just people?
How hard was your heart when your lifetime love had fizzled?
What colors did you paint as your daughter took her first breath?
Do you remember the date that you challenged fate and asked the girl that nobody could talk to?
How big your smile as you scratched your family dog behind the ear
How loud your laugh the first time you saw him dance
Does the awestruck look that overtook your face come to mind when you recall her mercy?
How long did you wait to speak when you saw the north rim of the canyon?
How tight did you grip the armrest when the plane dropped several thousand feet?
Does the picture tell how happy you were when she took your hand for the first time?
Did you measure the tears when they told you your Grandmother had just passed?
Did you ever get over losing your friend in that car wreck?
Were you always waiting for him to come back from the war?
Do you remember that moment that caused you so much pain that you knew without a doubt you were alive?
Did you write it down so you would never forget how hurt you were?
Do you instantly remember the length of her hair and the depth of her eyes every time you smell a similar perfume?
Was it a turning point that defined you?
Do you remember that day?
