Gauntlet

I will not run nor deny what I have done
I'm half the man I should be and twice the man I was
And I have won so many battles I don't remember
His helmet is my judgment and his honor shields my eyes
I'm bye your side as you go to face this challenge
You'll never stand alone while I hold the breath of life
My heart is real and it's filled by those before me
They've come and gone but they all remain inside
Though I am strong I do not claim to be worthy
I walk this field with hope to earn the right
They do not hear our soulful cry for mercy
So we must fight and many here will fall
I will not fail because this is my mission
And with his grace we will defeat them all
But know this now if this day should take us with it
I go to the ground rewarded beyond reason
By the love of someone that deserves more than I could ever give
