Archetypes

They chase you in the dark
Where the heralds often hark
They follow you in the light
Even in the darkest night

They shield you from your fears
And are a nuisance in later years
They bend your line of sight
So the truth is not so bright

Not built to steer the ship
More shooting from the hip
They steer you into the shoals
Poke your confidence with holes

They fight you for the wheel
With the power that they steel
Your foot tied to your arm
They now seek to do you harm

Corrupted magistrates from Mars
They drive you to the bars
Seeking mirrors of your pain
While they raise the flags to main

Dancing puppet to the puppeteer
You drink whiskey, rye and beer
Trying to fulfill their need
You argue, wish and plead

But the answer is left behind
In the memories of your mind
They bring damage to your health
And rob your strength and wealth

The worst of the awful truth
They saved you in your youth
But now they are monsters on the lose
Creatures that outlived their use

In fact they seek to destroy you now
Or run your life for you somehow
The only way out is to stand and fight
Whether it's in the dark or light

They have great big bulging eyes
Or seek to scare you with mass and size
You must first go to where it began
With all the honesty you can

Then with your armor, sword and shield
And spiritual protection you can wield
You must battle for control
And the ownership of your soul
